Should I Stay in a Serviced Apartment or Hotel?

Serviced Apartment Bedroom

Both serviced apartments and hotels offer travelers a place to stay, but they also differ in a number of ways.

If you have stayed in both of them you will know what we are talking about.

Why are they renting apartments instead of hotels? What is the difference between serviced apartments and hotels? When am I supposed to stay in a serviced apartment? We’re going to start with the hotels.

What is a Hotel? Is it only a building with rooms and beds?

That would be too simple and of course, a hotel  can be much more than that. Hotels are a great place for a leisure or business traveler to rest, relax and, if you’re lucky, get some work done. The hotel industry is big business: the global hotel industry is worth $300 billion annually and has been growing at a rate of 4% each year. Why? People love hotels they are tried and tested and people know what to expect.

WHEN SHOULD I STAY IN A HOTEL?

Depending on where you are in the world, staying in a hotel is a great way to experience a new city, with the bonus of a free breakfast and late checkout. But when’s best to stay in a hotel?

The answer to that is actually pretty simple: it depends on you and what you want.

If you are looking to be waited on hand and foot during your stay, with all your meals cooked for you and the option for breakfast to be delivered to your room. You are okay with enough space to unpack one bag of clothes and a compact sleeping space then a hotel is probably for you. But if you are staying longer, love to cook and are looking for somewhere to settle in then a Serviced Apartment maybe best for you.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Staying in a hotel can be a great experience; you can meet new people, discover new foods, and have your own simple launch pad to explore a city for a weekend — something you often don’t get if you are staying with a friend or relative. Many come with gyms, pools and health centers, daily cleaning and on site restaurants if you don’t mind eating from the same limited menu 3 or 4 times a week. The number of beds you in many of the major hotels means you can often turn up unannounced and have somewhere to stay within 10 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE DRAWBACKS OF STAYING IN A HOTEL?

Staying in a hotel room for a few days can be a great way to save money while traveling.  But a hotel room can lack a lot of the comforts you’re used to in your regular home, like a full kitchen, high-speed Internet, and some privacy.

WHAT IS A SERVICED APARTMENT?

Serviced apartments are ideal for travelers who are new to a city or those who are staying in town for an extended period. They are generally a furnished apartment that provides a number of facilities such as cleaning service, daily maid service, and in-house maintenance, which makes it ideal for stays of a month or longer. This type of accommodation also nearly always comes with cable and internet, so you’re all set for to binge watch Netflix in your under pants.

The advantage of renting a serviced apartment is that you can stay in a comfort of house, with the same facilities you may have at home, without having to rent long term or go through the hassle of buying or leasing furniture and paying all the bills. The biggest advantage of serviced apartments is that they offer much more space, designated cooking area and are usually cheaper than staying in a hotel.

WHEN SHOULD I STAY IN A SERVICED APARTMENT?

Serviced apartments are  somewhere in between a hotels and your own homes. They are obviously never going to give you the exact same comforts as your own home, but they are better than a hotel. In other words, it’s like a hotel with the extra space, comforts and amenities you need. So anytime you are looking to stay in extended-stay hotels you should consider a serviced apartment instead. They are great for business trips, family vacations or get together, and long term stays or corporate relocation and come with many of the Hotel services you have come to expect.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF STAYING IN A SA?

Well apart from being fully furnished, equipped and ready for you to move straight in. Each property offers a complete and self-contained living service and is designed with the guests in mind. Spacious apartments are both functional and practical and have fully equipped kitchens which you don’t get in standard hotels. The Kitchen Facilities gives you the opportunity to cook and eat the food you like instead of eating from the kitchen in the hotel for weeks. The range of accommodation is great and you cant rent anything from 1-bedroom and studio apartments in Central London with generous wardrobe space, to large 5 bedroom apartments. All the guests under one roof which is perfect for a family holiday away. Modern self-catering apartments tend to offer more additional space for dining and relaxing.Which is great if you love to cook.

DRAWBACKS OF SERVICED ACCOMMODATION?

Luxury Apartments are becoming more and more popular, but just like any change, not everyone is going to be a fan. When you choose a serviced apartment, you are renting a fully furnished, self-catering apartment in a building managed by a property management company. You are also paying for a certain level of service, which includes cleaning, maintenance, and housekeeping. It’s not a hotel, so you don’t get room service or a in house restaurants or bars, there are usually strict rules about things like noise and pets. You are usually charged the cleaning fee on top so can be more expensive than hotels for one and two night stays.

BONUS: APARTHOTEL OR APARTMENT HOTELS

Aparthotel or apartment hotels, whatever you want to call them, are somewhere in the middle. And are a great choice for those who are looking for a self catering stay with the extra facilities of a hotel. The hotels all have kitchens, so you can cook your own meals, and they also have communal areas such as lounges and swimming pools, so you’re not isolated in your own apartment (though you can, of course, feel free to spend your whole holiday in your apartment if you prefer). If you are looking for a more budget friendly hotel stay, but don’t like the idea of staying in hostels, then aparthotels could be good choice for you.
